What's goin down for Van Meter

Hello fellow Directors!:D As we all know, this project is a big one, and there is much to be done! The Detroit school already has their entire script for all of their Acts, and sadly, we haven't even started. To add on, we need to skype the other school soon, so we know the final costume ideas and other things. Below is a list of what each job group should be getting started on.

Actors: READ! Especially Acts 2&4. "Study" your part/character, get a feel of who your going to be portraying.

Writers: Again, READ! Not just the original play, but also the other school's script, and analyze how they wrote it. I'm reading it, and so far, it's very modern, but it still incorporates the formal language of Shakespeare. And PLEASE, IT'S VERY IMPORTANT that the script stays on task and isn't just "good enough". If you think you can make it sound better than from what you had, do it. For example, "Goodbye cousin." instead of see you later. Try not to use slang! By not using slang or conjuctions (ex. can't), it already makes it sound more formal.

Deadline for a rough draft of the scripts: This Friday (March 25th)

Dani: Act 2, scenes 1-3 (on pdf. 8,9,10)
Brenna: Act 2, scenes 4-6 (on pdf. 11,12,13)
Emi: Act 4, scene 3,  (on pdf. 23)
Will: Act 4 scene 1 (on pdf. 21)
Jessie: Act 4, scene 2 (on pdf. 22)
Caroline: Act 4, scene 4&5 (on pdf. 24&25)

We just need a rough draft of each of your parts, it doesn't have to be perfect! We're not asking you to read the entire play, just go over your section, and begin to "translate". Feel free to come up to Morgan, Sarah, and Ashlyn for help with writing, we're the main suporvisors for that!

Audio: READ! And it is VERY IMPORTANT that while reading, you recognize the mood/tone of what you're reading! Music easily makes up more than half of the final production, it helps captivate the audience and make the scenes more realistic and enjoyable. Unfortunatly, we have a lot of the "lovely dovey" scenes! So we probably shouldn't use heavy metal, screamo, or stuff like that. Some of us directors already have some song selections picked out, kind of like a guidline for everyone. We are going to have a meeting with all audio people soon, so we'll show you then. In the meantime though, read read read!(:

Props/Costumes:  Make sure to read Acts 2&4, and pay attention to the way the characters interact with eachother. It will help decide on how you can dress the actors. For example, the Prince in Act 1. He was like the mayor of the town, overseeing everything that was happening and was incharge of keeping the peace, so he might be dressed up in a suit to indicate that he's more important. The way the actors look helps portray their characters in a huge way. Also, we skyped the other school about costumes, and since  it's taking place at rival schools, that the Montagues could wear one color of t-shirts, and the Capulets a different color. So like Montagues could be red, capulets blue, simple stuff like that. Keep in mind when thinking of costumes that the people in the other school have to wear the same thing, so it has to be relatively easy stuff. Also, for the more main characters, like romeo and juliet, we have to find an easy way to make them stand out from the rest of the people. Write down any ideas you have, so that way when you meet with the Directors, you have an idea of what it's going to be.

Camera:  Read, and pay attention to where the scenes take place and what's going on. Cool camera angles make the film exciting and fun to watch. Like how fights in action movies switch their camera angles a lot, to get the audience to pay attention to what's happening. The Directors will also help with camera angles a lot, so don't worry a lot about it. The best thing you guys can do is read, and go watch a movie. Study the angles and the different techniques used to make the scenes, so that way you guys have ideas on how to portray certain scenes.

Advertising/Social Media  Reading the play is also important for you guys(: You gotta know what your promoting! And this is an important job, because everyone in the secondary is invited to come see our final prodution! So we have to make it look appealing and fun for people to come see, not that people won't already know that ;D Some stuff you culd start getting ideas for are posters, shirts, pamphlets, commercials, etc. T.J. and Gaige are the main Directors you can ask help for on this, they'll be supervising you guys the most, but you can come up to the other Directos too. Like all other groups, we'll have a meeting in advisory sometime and you can let us know your progress and ideas!
